Well, what I do is go to cafes and bars and sell art.  I don't care about much else.
I don't see the point of making big work on canvas that no one is going to buy, so I just make affordable art.  Everyone can afford $5-$20, and some can afford $20-$40.
I'm very prolific, so I just keep going, and selling as much as I can.
     It's fun.

One other thing...I've had people critique me for painting naked ladies, but that is what sells.  I do have other art for sale, but most people don't buy that stuff.

People who critique and criticize me never buy anything from me, because they suck as human beings, and should find something better to do with their time.  Plus, they have no money to spend anyhow.  What they do have they just spend on booze and pot.

While I am thinking about it, most people in California seem to be on booze, pot, drugs, or religious madness.

One thing is for sure, and that is no one from Alcoholics Anonymous have ever bought art from me.  On second thought, a cop has never bought art from me, either.

There is this line of dialogue floating around for a couple of years that, "Everyone is an artist".

I think it is a load of crap.

That is like saying that everyone is a carpenter.  I don't saw wood, or own many woodworking tools.  I am not employed as a carpenter.  Therefore, I am not a carpenter.

I refuse to believe that such a loose interpretation of the word can be applied to everyone.

Someone who watches sports on t.v. all day long is not an artist.

If you are a doctor, you can be an artist by doing something so skillful and cognizant that you could be recognized as a true artist in relationship with what you do.
     It is all about context.

A chef could be an artist, if he has mastered his craft, but also is creative in coming up with new dishes and recipes.

So the term 'artist' can be applied to many things.  I get that.

Saying that everyone is an artist is one of those 'soft-language' things made to make everyone feel good about themselves, but when you make words not mean what they are supposed to, language breaks down at that point, and there is no meaning to anything.

Sarah Palin is an artist, because she sure as hell ain't a politician.  In this case, the word applies to her 'craftiness' in convincing people that she is a politician.

Most people I know, and I am surprised by this, think that all words have only one meaning.  They don't even realize that most words have four or five main meanings, with ten or more different applications of the word.
Yes, one word can have fifteen different meanings.

If you don't believe me, go look at The Oxford English Dictionary.  These crap web dictionaries just don't cut the mustard for me.

Okay, but I'm sorry, not everyone is an artist.

They also use the term now for 'recording artists'.  That singer is an 'artist'.
Well, 'Catpower' is an artist, and a good alcoholic, so I would say she is one.  She writes her own material, and performs.
Most of these singing broads rely on others to write songs for them, and then they just jigaboo the notes up and down as many times as possible.
That ain't art, that is 'Notice Me!  I am more important than the song is!  I am more important than what I am singing!'

Jimi Hendrix is an artist.  Go watch some of his interviews, and see how humble he is.  That, my friends, is a true artist.

Other than that, if you disagree with me, go F yourself, and do us all a favor.

I'm an artist, and I don't have to accept what society imposes on me.  That is what an artist is.

I'm tired of this discussion, see you later.  I just hope to be done with this, so I can move on.  Geez Louise.

The idea for this blog popped into my head an hour or two ago, and it kept bugging me, until I created it.

I often get ideas, and if they go away on their own, then I forget about it.

This one kept nagging at me, so here it is.

I guess I have a lot to say about being an artist, since I've been one my whole life, and professionally since the age of 17, more or less.

Maybe I can write some things that will help people, who knows?

Maybe I will help myself by writing this blog.

If there is anything I have learned, it is to follow your gut.

If anything comes out of writing this blog, so be it.

At the very least, I'll get some hits.  Whether from automated bots or actual humans, I guess we shall see.

But if I can say one thing about being an artist that is really important, that is, "You have to get off your butt, and do the work."
There is no short cut to this.

I know people want things to be easy, but guess what, it isn't.

If you aren't prepared to do the work, don't even bother becoming an artist.  You will waste your time, and everybody's time.

If you are ready, start drawing, and stop reading this blog.

     Go ahead, start.

Get back to me later, I'll be here.
